Hey all! Today, I want to talk about one of the simplest but most powerful, yet often overlooked and underappreciated tools in your fitness arsenal—hydration. Staying hydrated might not sound as exciting as crushing a PR in spin class or discovering a new workout move, but trust me, it’s just as important. Whether you’re pushing through a tough workout, recovering after an intense session, or simply going about your day, hydration plays a massive role in how your body performs, recovers, and feels.

For me, water has always been a go-to, but over the years, I’ve learned that staying hydrated isn’t just about chugging H2O. It’s about being intentional with what I drink and when, especially as someone who’s constantly active. Let’s dive into why hydration is key to your fitness success and some tips I’ve picked up along the way.

Hydration: The Secret to Peak Performance

Did you know that even mild dehydration can affect your workout performance? When your body doesn’t have enough fluids, it can’t regulate temperature as well, your muscles tire more easily, and your energy levels drop. If you’re sweating it out in one of my spin classes or hitting a HIIT session, hydration is what keeps you going strong.

I’ve noticed a huge difference in how I feel during workouts when I’ve been intentional about hydrating beforehand. My energy is higher, my endurance lasts longer, and I recover faster. Hydration isn’t just about quenching your thirst—it’s about fueling your body for success.

How I Stay Hydrated Throughout the Day

For me, staying hydrated starts as soon as I wake up. I always keep a water bottle nearby, and I sip on it all day long. But let’s be real—plain water can get a little boring. That’s where tea and hydration supplements come in. Here’s a little peek at how I keep my hydration game on point:

1. Water All Day, Every Day
Water is my go-to, and I try to drink it consistently throughout the day—not just when I’m thirsty. I always have a bottle handy, whether I’m teaching a class, running errands, or just hanging out at home. A friendly little tip...if plain water isn’t your thing, try adding a slice of lemon, cucumber, or mint for a little flavor boost!

2. Tea for a Cozy Hydration Boost
I’m a huge fan of tea, especially in the afternoon. It’s a great way to stay hydrated while enjoying something warm and soothing. Herbal teas, in particular, are my favorite—they’re caffeine-free and a perfect way to keep sipping throughout the day.

3. AminoMode for Recovery
During and after my classes and workouts, especially intense spin classes, I sip on my AminoMode from 3D Labs Nutrition. It’s packed with essential amino acids that help with recovery, and it tastes amazing, too. I mix 1-2 scoops into my water and away we go.

4. HydraMode for Ultimate Hydration

  • Check Your Thirst: If you’re feeling thirsty, you’re already starting to get dehydrated. Aim to sip on water regularly throughout the day.

  • Look at Your Urine: (Yep, we’re going there!) If it’s light yellow, you’re probably hydrated. Dark yellow means you need to drink more.

  • Track Your Intake: If you’re not great at remembering to drink, try using an app or setting reminders on your phone. Sometimes, it’s just about building the habit.

My Hydration Routine for Active Days

Here’s a little breakdown of how I approach hydration on a typical day:

  1. Morning: A big glass of water to start the day! First thing I do...even before my coffee.

  2. Before Class: I drink water, mixed with AminoMode, leading up to my workout to ensure I’m properly hydrated.

  3. During Class: I always bring my bottle, with my same mix, with me and sip as needed throughout class.

  4. After Class: As soon as class ends, I make sure my AminoMode mix has been finished. This is kind of like my own way of knowing I've at least done the absolute minimum. At this point, my water/tea intake for the rest of the afternoon begins.

  5. Evening: More water, and sometimes a chamomile tea to relax and wind down.
